– When one is involved in many sectors, business decisions are the icing on the cake. I get a versatile overview of the data sector, regardless of the origin and use case of the data, Juho says.
From IT tasks to data warehousing and various data solutions
Juho stumbled upon the current, most important job of his career in 2020. At that time, while working as an IT expert, Juho attended a wedding, where one of the guests recommended Pinja as an employer, which prompted him to apply for a job.
After starting his new job at Pinja, he spent the first two months at the company’s data warehouse academy, where he learned the basics of data transfer, data warehousing, and reporting.
– The training that was partly based on anonymized client data was interesting and it provided several real-life examples of client cases, Juho describes the start of his career at Pinja.
After graduating from the academy, Juho quickly jumped in at the deep end:
– I was given a lot of responsibility right away, which is a great vote of confidence from Pinja.
Today, Juho prepares versatile data warehousing and reporting solutions for clients. He works in many sectors, ranging from heavy industry to financial reporting. His job description includes responsibilities from the entire data pipeline, which means that he creates value for the client in various ways.
The job description of a data engineer has many shapes and sizes
At Pinja, the job description of a data engineer is exceptionally diverse, Juho says. In addition to the traditional tasks such as the development of data warehouses and creation of data solutions, it also includes a lot of full-stack work. As a Business Intelligence Specialist, Juho is involved in many kinds of situations, which puts him close to the clients’ operations. The job description of a data engineer also includes some softer tones.
– It is not all hard technical work; we also define the reporting together with the client, Juho describes.
In practice, every workday is different. Juho finds his job rewarding because of its multidisciplinary nature and because he gets to see the impact of his work on the organization in practice.
At Pinja, you can decide what you want to focus on – the technical things, definition, or pure reporting – or all of the above.
According to Juho, one of his most fascinating tasks at Pinja was a data warehouse and reporting solution where clients received different versions of the data warehouse and reporting depending on how often the client’s real-time data should be updated. For some clients, the data was updated once a day, while others needed the most up-to-date information every 10 minutes.
– I enjoy helping people understand the data in their daily lives, Juho states.
Mutual flexibility
Juho describes Pinja as a flexible and rewarding employer that listens to its employees. In his experience, he was encouraged to ask questions from day one, regardless of his title. At Pinja, people don’t get stuck in their roles, and even bright ideas from interns are welcomed by the whole team.
- The work culture is based on mutual trust and flexibility – the employee trusts the company and vice versa. Employees’ wishes are listened to, Juho says.
- At Pinja, you can decide what you want to focus on – the technical things, definition, or pure reporting – or all of the above.
Juho wants to develop his full-stack skills. Working with people will certainly continue in the form of my client responsibilities and internally as a team leader.
– I enjoy working with people. However, I see myself as an employee and colleague who takes care of his team as a leader, he says.
