In August 2025, Pinja’s latest digital fuel management solutions were implemented at Vantaan Energia’s High-Temperature Incineration Plant, enabling the long-term partnership between the two companies. The High-Temperature Incineration Plant, which began operations in the same year, introduced a fuel management system designed for waste management, a supplier portal, and electronic movement documents. These solutions support the operative efficiency of the plant, improve process transparency, and enhance the safe management of waste flows.
The plant uses high-temperature waste treatment technology designed specifically for the safe incineration of hazardous waste. It receives and processes a wide range of hazardous waste, including paint, medicines, and hospital waste. The energy generated from the incineration is used for local heat production.
Pinja’s management system and client portal streamline fuel supply chain management and support operational planning in the plant. This technology allows Vantaan Energia to schedule the reception of various waste loads, weigh them, and ensure that each batch is processed according to specific requirements and safety instructions. Pinja’s solutions provide a transparent and smooth process for the entire supply chain.
Pinja’s system improves the safe operation of the plant by providing real-time visibility into the quality, quantity, and schedule of waste deliveries. The information entered into the system helps ensure that different types of waste are handled appropriately, taking into consideration the safety of employees and the surrounding areas. The solution streamlines and automates operations for both the plant and suppliers because it integrates key technologies into one system.
“We chose Pinja as our technology partner because our previous experience shows that they are a good partner. The supply chain management system provides real-time visibility into incoming waste deliveries, stock levels, and information on how to use the stored material as efficiently and safely as possible in energy production,” says Teemu Ruuttila, Head of the Circular Economy Unit at Vantaan Energia.
In addition to the supply chain management system, Vantaan Energia uses Pinja’s electronic movement document solution to report waste origin and processing data to the authorities.
“We greatly appreciate the trust Vantaan Energia has shown in us and are very pleased with the continued cooperation. We can also confirm that the project is progressing according to the planned schedule. We will continue to support the efficient and safe operation of the High-Temperature Incineration Plant to contribute to the circular economy,” says Petrus Taskinen, Sales Manager of Pinja’s Bioenergy and Circular Economy Unit.
